Literally, chills indicate the body is having a fever. This condition occurs when the body experiences inflammation which is often caused by infection with viruses, bacteria, or other foreign substances that are considered to be harmful to the body.

Symptoms are characterized by a body temperature above 37.5 degrees Celsius, no appetite due to weakness and a bitter mouth, dizziness, and chills accompanied by sweating. To reduce symptoms, you can take chills such as the following.

1. Acetaminophen (paracetamol)

This drug, also known as paracetamol, is used to reduce your body temperature which rises due to fever. This drug is also often used to treat mild to moderate pain and relieve flu or colds, headaches, menstrual symptoms, toothaches, and back pain.

There are many acetaminophen medicinal products available and how to take them varies. For example, chewable tablets, pills, or syrup. Always read the drinking rules carefully and don't take more than the recommended dosage. Usually, the dosage of drugs is determined based on age.

In addition, do not take this medication for more than 10 days for adults or 5 days for children, unless you have received permission from a doctor. Be aware of some side effects such as rash, itching, swelling of the face or tongue, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.

Check with your doctor immediately if your condition does not improve or if you have a history of liver disease, diabetes, phenylketonuria, or are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking acetaminophen.

2. Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil)

This medication is used to reduce pain from various conditions such as headaches, toothaches, menstrual cramps, muscle aches, and arthritis. However, ibuprofen is also often used to relieve fever, flu, or cold. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory that works in the body to block certain natural substances that can cause inflammation, swelling, or pain when you have a fever.

Read the drinking rules before taking this medication. Adjust drug dosage according to age. This medicine is usually taken every 4 to 6 hours with a glass of water. It is recommended not to lie down 10 minutes after the drug is taken. Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and drowsiness are side effects that you may feel after taking the medicine.

Severe side effects can cause easy bruising, ringing in the head, stiff neck, vision changes, or fatigue. If the medicine is taken for more than three days but the condition does not improve or gets worse, immediately get further tests to the doctor.

3. Naproxen

Apart from ibuprofen, naproxen can also be used for pain relievers, such as headaches, toothaches, tendonitis, and menstrual pain, as well as gout and arthritis. It works the same as ibuprofen which prevents inflammation in the body.

Read the drinking rules first and adjust the dosage according to your age. Usually taken 2 or 3 times a day with a glass of water and not allowed to lie down for at least 10 minutes after the drug is drunk.

Side effects of this drug are headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, and pain in the heartburn. Consult the use of drugs first if you have blood pressure disorders because these drugs can lower blood pressure risk.

4. Aspirin

This medication can reduce fever as well as relieve pain from toothaches, headaches, or muscle aches. It works the same as ibuprofen and naproxen. In addition, it can also be used to prevent blood clots that are at risk of causing a heart attack or stroke. That is why this drug is also known as a blood thinner drug. Consult beforehand if aspirin is used for children under 12 years of age.

Medicines should only be taken in small doses to treat chills. You are not allowed to use this drug for more than 3 days unless your doctor has approved it. Immediately do further tests if after taking aspirin you feel weakness on one side of your body, have visual or speech problems, and headaches accompanied by stiff neck and vomiting.
